When it comes to designing a Unit Converter application, our top priority is eliminating confusion.

In a noisy world where unit categories and abbreviations can be overwhelming, it is important to have a tool that provides a high signal-to-noise ratio. Our unit conversion tool is designed to make your life easier.

As normal users ourselves, we initially set out to find a unit converter that simply does its job: converting units. However, after being disappointed by the top 30 unit converters on the market, we decided to create our own. We noticed that existing converters failed to properly handle conflicts related to:

• The display of unit full names and abbreviations: Many converters do not provide information such as kg for kilogram, oz for ounce, or lbs for pounds. And even if some do display the full names and abbreviations, it is often done in an unappealing way.
• User experience and advertising: Some converters suffer from poor usability due to excessive ads. For example, interstitial ads appearing between unit category pages and unit conversion pages can severely disrupt the user experience and potentially frustrate users.
• The inclusion of commonly used units and professionally used units: Existing converters tend to focus too much on a specific set of unit categories or attempt to include every possible unit category. This leads to either limited options or excessive complexity. Furthermore, the navigation systems in many converters are overly complicated, often causing users to get lost in the conversion process.

Our unit conversion tool addresses these issues by allowing users to easily convert commonly used units such as cm to inches, kg to lbs (kilogram to pounds), ounces to gram, km/h to mph, Celsius to Fahrenheit (and vice versa).

Key features of our unit converter include:

• Scrollable lists to limit invalid information: Users are presented with only the relevant units for conversion. For example, if you want to convert cm to inches, you can focus on centimeter and inch in their respective lists without being distracted by irrelevant options like meter to feet or kilometer to miles. Similarly, when converting grams to ounces, you don't need to consider kg to lbs or tonne to pounds.
• Responsive buttons: Unit abbreviations are easily accessible, providing quick access to the corresponding unit in the scrollable list. For instance, clicking on "kg" will immediately bring you to the kilogram option. This feature enhances user responsiveness and ease of use.
• Simple layout for easy navigation between screens.

To further enhance usability, the unit categories are sorted based on their frequency of use rather than alphabetical order. Weight units, length units, volume units, and temperature units are given priority over speed units, power units, and pressure units.

This usability principle is also reflected in the unit conversion equations themselves. The most commonly used units are placed in more visible areas. For example, kilogram (kg), gram (g), ounce (oz), and pound (lbs) are prioritized over tonne (ton), milligram (mg), and troy ounce (oz t). Consequently, it is much easier to convert kg to lbs or g to oz. Similarly, centimeter (cm), millimeter (mm), inch (in), and mile (mi) have a higher rank than nautical mile (nmi) and nanometer (nm), simplifying conversions from cm to inches or km to miles.
